Earn your belt

One of the most exciting experiences of your Martial Arts training is rank testing for your next colored belt. This is an earned opportunity that is scheduled and based on your continuous growth and development in the Martial Arts.

Although colored belt ranks may appear to be the same within the various disciplines and styles of Martial Arts, United Studios of Self Defense has structured a system of required material outline for each belt rank. This structure will ensure you are continuously expanding your skills and gaining the necessary physical and mental principles towards your next belt rank.

Karate is for everyone

Size, age, weight, hair color, none of it matters.

Martial Arts for adults

From 20 to 120 years old!

Learn More...

More energy and greater productivity – Lifting weights for hour after hour on the elliptical machine gets boring pretty fast. Not martial arts. Kenpo Karate is an ever-increasing series of challenges (belts & ranks). It keeps things fresh. You learn new skills and techniques every week. And you often don’t even realize you’re exercising!

Leadership – Through your martial arts training you learn even more leadership skills… like how to speak in front of a group and communicate effectively, how to set a good example for others, how to mentor lower ranks and guide others to success. All of these skills are useful to your career, your profession and your life.

Focus and Discipline – With all of the competition for our attention, demands on our time, cell phones and devices, one of the rarest and most valued character traits these days is focus. This is where martial arts training helps. It gives you a short break from digital demands, improving your powers of concentration. Karate teaches focus and concentration through rhythmic breathing and relaxation, step-by-step repetitive movements, personal attention, positive reinforcement, adherence to etiquette and rules (structure), group reinforcement and a sense of belonging. For these reasons, martial arts helps build focus and concentration much better than exercise alone.

Self Defense – It can be a dangerous world out there, and this is especially true when the economy is struggling as it currently is. Martial arts helps improve your agility, balance, endurance, flexibility, and strength. You learn how to defend yourself physically as well as how to avoid physical confrontations in the first place.

Teenagers and karate

13 to 19 year olds

Learn More...
Both male and female teenagers can benefit from martial arts instruction in a variety of ways. Young men learn skills that will help them assess danger and make wise decisions about when to be assertive and when to avoid confrontation. Young women also gain experience in assessing dangerous situations, and learn tactics that will help them escape and the confidence to defend themselves if escape isn’t possible.

Preparing teenagers to defend themselves while building their self-confidence is one of the greatest gifts we can give them as they cross that border to adulthood. Have you ever met a young brown belt or black belt student? You will find that they are among the most polite, self-assured and respectful people you will ever meet.

Our kenpo style karate training is unlike judo, jiu-jitsu, taekwuando or most any other martial art. We focus on personal skills through one-on-one classes and group lessons. Our belt ranking system sets achievable goals that motivate while strengthening your sense of self-worth. Lessons in self-defense and karate last a lifetime, and remain practical for students who were given the opportunity to partake in serious study. Teenagers are at the perfect age to begin studying martial arts because they are both physically able to do the movements and mentally mature enough to understand their applications.

Come see why USSD is a truly different experience from any other martial arts training you may have seen before.

Karate for your kids

From as young as 3 years old!

Learn More
While learning the martial arts is beneficial of all age groups, the most dramatic results are almost always visible in children. Confidence development begins during the early years, when a child begins to develop a sense of self. The more time invested into cultivating a positive self-image, the greater the success. Even a very shy child can learn to become confident in his ability to tackle new situations both in the dojo and in everyday life.

Learning the martial arts will help develop self-discipline and socialization skills. In fact, many parents whose children have attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) report great success with these programs because self-control and concentration are exactly the skills that are underdeveloped in ADHD kids.

The kids learn respect, whether from bowing or from standing still and waiting for the next command. This can be the most important benefit of martial arts for your kids. Research shows that it often carries over into school, helping to improve behavior and even academic performance.
